Many educators find it challenging to meet the social and emotional needs of their students to help them succeed academically. This introductory course provides an insight into social-emotional learning (SEL) and a pathway to the initial steps of integrating SEL into your school or district. You will hone key components as defined by MDE: the five core social and emotional competencies; the research underpinning SEL; and comprehensive benefits and positive outcomes of SEL for staff, students, families, and other stakeholders.This course is part of the Social and Emotional Learning series.
In this course, you will:
- Define Social and Emotional Learning (SEL),
- Understand ways in which SEL can increase a student’s capacity to learn,
- Outline the five competencies of SEL defined by MDE, and
- Review SEL standards and benchmarks to apply to your school and classroom.
