Get Feedback Tailored to Your Online Learning Program

We offer free reviews to Michigan K-12 schools with supplemental online learning programs (i.e. not full-time cyber schools). This opportunity allows districts to reflect on what’s working and what areas they could improve to enhance their program’s effectiveness. Conducted by online learning experts, these reviews are aligned to the National Standards for Quality Online Learning Programs and present an opportunity for schools to:
  1. Reflect on what’s working in their program and which areas to modify to increase program effectiveness
  2. Receive customized feedback and targeted resources related to their growth areas
  3. Analyze their program based on existing evidence
  4. Discuss their results with our researchers and ask questions tailored to their program’s needs

We also offer supplemental online program reviews to schools outside of Michigan for a fee.

Key Focus Areas

In developing our review process, we identified key focus areas of successful supplemental online programs rooted in the latest update to the National Standards for Quality Online Programs:

  1. Program Foundation
  2. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
  3. Teacher & Mentor Support
  4. Student & Parent Support
  5. Communication
  6. Program Evaluation

Each review culminates in a report that includes written feedback on the strengths and opportunities for further development in your program in each of the areas of focus, as well as multiple resources within each focal area which you may leverage toward increasing program effectiveness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our supplemental online learning program reviews are personalized to the needs of your school and your staff. Each review is conducted in the following stages:

  1. Your school completes a web-based survey that collects information on the key focus areas of successful online learning programs.
  2. Our staff reviews the survey results and conducts an interview with your school staff about your program.
  3. We write a summary report based on your findings that includes resources and recommendations targeted specifically toward your school’s identified areas for growth.

Your school has one opportunity to review the summary before our staff submits the final report. Your review is confidential and provided only to your school.

Any Michigan school with a K-12 supplemental online learning program (i.e. not a full-time cyber school) is eligible for a free review by our highly-trained researchers! Whether you rely on a vendor to supply online courses to your students or have created your own homegrown online content, we’re happy to review your program.

We also offer supplemental online program reviews to schools outside of Michigan for a fee.

Simply said, we are conducting free supplemental online program reviews to move forward the needle in student achievement in online learning. In 2019-20, our Michigan’s K-12 Virtual Learning Effectiveness Report found that the statewide virtual pass rate for online courses was 56 percent. This number suggests that there is room for improvement in our state’s digital classrooms.

In total, our review process takes between 4-6 weeks. The time commitment for schools, however, is minimal, requiring only a few hours to collect survey data, participate in an interview and review the final report. Limited Course Capacity

We’re sorry to inform you that we have reached capacity for several of our Semester 1 and Trimester 1 courses. You’ll notice when attempting to enroll students in our Student Learning Portal that some courses are unavailable. While we are no longer accepting new enrollments for these courses at this time, many courses continue to remain open for enrollment.

With many students across the state 100% remote, demand for our online courses is greater than ever before. Because every course we offer is taught by a Michigan-certified teacher, this high volume of enrollments has created capacity issues for our teachers who provide each and every student with individual feedback.

While the Michigan Virtual team anticipated and planned for significant increases in student enrollments this Fall, the increased demand we’ve experienced has been unprecedented. As a result, we are taking steps to hire even more part-and full-time teachers to support larger numbers of student enrollments for Semester 2 as well as for Trimester 2 and 3.

For schools that still need online learning options this year, please fill out the form at the bottom of our virtual pathways page to meet with someone to discuss other solutions. While some of our teacher-led courses are full, we may still have the capacity to help you in upcoming terms or can discuss timing to implement a whole-school or collaborative program in which local teachers from your school/district use our online course content to teach students. We also have free course content and resources available for you to use.

We know this is an incredibly stressful time for all, and we’re sorry if the courses you’re looking for are unavailable. We never want to turn away a student who wants to learn from us. Our top concern, however, is student success, and we have a policy to not take on additional enrollments if we cannot guarantee that all students will have a quality online learning experience.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the unusually high volume of enrollments we are receiving.
