Seclusion and Restraint

The improper use of seclusion or restraint on students can lead to emotional harm or injury. This awareness-level course meets the training requirements for all educators and support staff on the Policy for the Emergency Use of Seclusion and Restraint for public schools. You will focus on new law and policies that encourage the proactive use of organization-wide effective, evidence- and research-based strategies and best practices to reduce the occurrence of challenging behaviors.

In this course, you will:

  • Explain how major PBIS strategies reduce seclusion and restraint instances,
  • Define seclusion, restraint, and emergency situation,
  • Identify situations where the use of emergency seclusion and restraint are appropriate,
  • Recognize the requirements for reporting and documentation of seclusion and restraint.
