Michigan Virtual offers certification preparation course sequences and programs designed to support students pursuing career and industry credentials.

Certification Preparation Pathways in Information Technology and Cybersecurity

Michigan Information Technology Training, a Cisco Networking Academy, offers four online certification prep programs through Michigan Virtual. Certificates are not included as part of completing the online course; to register to take a certification exam after completing the course(s), see the “Additional Information” field of the respective course syllabus. Online courses are offered in standard Semester, Trimester, and Summer terms.

Networking Essentials

Networking Essentials

(CCST 100-150 NETWORK) This Networking Essentials course prepares you for the entry-level Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Network certification and entry-level roles such as Network Support Technician, Entry-level Help Desk Technician, or IT Support Specialist.

Cybersecurity Essentials

Cybersecurity Essentials

(CCST 100-160 CYBERSECURITY) Cybersecurity Essentials teaches comprehensive cybersecurity concepts and skills at the entry level, from threat mitigation and defense to post-incident forensics. Learners will progress from basic cybersecurity concepts to experiences in assessing vulnerabilities and risks later in the curriculum.

CCNA 1: Introduction to Networking

CCNA 1: Introduction to Networking

(CCNA 200-301) Begin preparing for a networking career with this introduction to how networks operate. This first course in the 3-course CCNA series introduces architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements – functions needed to support the operations and priorities of Fortune 500 companies to small innovative retailers.

CCNA 2: Routing and Switching Essentials

(CCNA 200-301) This course focuses on switching technologies and router operations that support small-to-medium business networks, including wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts. In this second course in a 3-course CCNA series you’ll perform basic network configuration and troubleshooting, identify and mitigate LAN security threats, and configure and secure a basic WLAN.

CCNA 3: Enterprise Networking, Security and Automation

Linux Operating System 2

Certification Pathways in Healthcare Careers

MedCerts offers two one-year online programs at a significant discount through Michigan Virtual, allowing students to prepare for a healthcare career certificate exam. Each program consists of three courses. Certification exams are not included in the online courses; to achieve a certificate, students must successfully complete all three required courses, earn a high school diploma or GED within the next 12 months, create an account on the NHA Certification Portal, and register to complete the CBCS or CEHRS national certification exam either at your school, a PSI testing center near you, or through live remote proctoring at the location of your choice.

Certification Pathway in Insurance and Risk Management

The University of Olivet offers a one-year program in Insurance and Risk Management, consisting of three online courses through Michigan Virtual. Students who complete the three online courses with final scores of 80% or higher may apply to The Institutes to attain their CPCU in Insurance and Risk Management and will be eligible to transfer their transcripts for college credits when enrolling at the UO after completing a high school diploma.

IRM 221: Principles of Insurance and Risk Management

RM 221 is the 1st of a 3-course series sponsored by the University of Olivet. Students who successfully complete the three courses by earning an overall score of 80% or higher are eligible to submit their transcripts for IRM 252 (CPCU 555) and IRM 253 (CPCU 551 plus Ethical Decision-Making in Risk Management) to The Institutes Knowledge Group to receive a CPCU professional designation certificate of completion.

Military Careers

The Military Careers pathway consists of a two-course sequence. The first, Introduction to Military Careers, provides an overview of career opportunities in branches of the military, while the second, Military Careers 2: ASVAB Prep allows students to select which military careers they are most interested in pursuing and will assign students to the content and practice exercises most associated with the qualifying scores on the ASVAB related to entering that field within a branch of the military. The course also contains full ASVAB practice exams.

Military Careers 2: ASVAB Prep

This ASVAB Prep Course prepares students for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, whether pursuing military enlistment or exploring military career options. Content covers English Language Arts, Mathematics, Auto Shop, Mechanical and Electronics information, and General Science. All students begin with introductory units covering ASVAB overview, diagnostic assessments, and study strategies.

Certification Pathway to Agriculture Associate

The Agriscience Foundations I course prepares students for the Agriculture Associate certification exam offered online through Agriculture Education Services & Technology (AEST), a division of the Florida Farm Bureau. The certificate is not included as part of completing the online course; to register to take the certification exam, enroll in the Agriculture Associate AEST Certification Exam offering in the Student Learning Portal (SLP) prior to completion of your online course; see the “Certification Exams” term within the 2026-27 student calendar for available enrollment dates. The online course is offered in the standard semester term.

Agriscience Foundations

Agriscience Foundations

Agriscience Foundations involves the scientific study of agriculture and its local and global impact. Students will dive into agricultural history, learn about scientific and research concepts that drive the field, animal and plant systems, as well as the effects of agriculture on the environment. This course also teaches about career opportunities available in the field and how students can promote themselves to land a dream job. Specialized, optional lab activities provide students the hands-on practice needed to master the content.

Agriculture Associate AEST Certification Exam

This enrollment registration allows students who are concurrently enrolled in Agriscience Foundations I to pay for the AEST Agriculture Associate online certification exam and receive support from Michigan Virtual in registering for an exam session that will be remotely proctored by an AEST staff member via Zoom or a similar video conferencing application.
