About This Course

The opioid epidemic in the United States poses a threat to our students and communities. Education professionals, including school nurses, can save lives and make a difference with naloxone. This course covers the knowledge and skills needed to recognize the signs of an overdose and administer naloxone, a life-saving medication.

In this course, you will:

  • Identify the impacts of the opioid epidemic and its relevance to the world of education
  • Recognize the importance of harm reduction and the need for naloxone programs and policies
  • Describe opioids and their effects on the body, including the signs and symptoms of an overdose
  • Recognize the effects of naloxone on the body
  • Respond to an opioid overdose with naloxone
  • Reduce addiction stigma by countering misinformation about opioids and addiction
  • Advocate for naloxone education and distribution in your school community 

This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. 

This course offers 3 Contact Hours.
