About This Course

Whether you are teaching in the classroom or remotely using virtual instruction, Project-Based Learning (PBL) can support students in developing lasting scientific understanding of real-world phenomena. In this course, you will experience the tenets of PBL for elementary students through examples, videos, and discussions. Through your observations, you will acquire new tactics to shift your science instruction in a way that encourages driving questions from students, helps them create artifacts, and supports them during the “figuring out” process of big ideas in science.

In this course, you will:

  • Reflect on your current practices for elementary science instruction,
  • Observe students participating in Project-Based Learning through classroom videos, 
  • Learn about the benefits of using Driving Question Boards for students to explore scientific phenomena, and
  • Develop your own artifact as evidence of student learning.
