About This Course
Poverty affects more than home life—it impacts how students learn, behave, and engage in the classroom. In this introductory course, you’ll explore foundational research from Eric Jensen on the cognitive, emotional, and academic effects of poverty. Gain a clearer understanding of the barriers students face and begin building a mindset and strategy toolkit to help them thrive. This course is the first in a seven-part series on poverty and student achievement.
In this course, you will:
- Understand how poverty affects student learning, behavior, and development.
- Explore key research and insights from Eric Jensen.
- Identify barriers to academic success faced by students in poverty.
- Build awareness as a foundation for future mindset and strategy shifts.
- Prepare for deeper learning through the remaining six courses in the series.
