Improve the outcomes of your online students.

It’s no secret that many students struggle to transition to the online environment. With increased freedom over learning comes increased responsibility. In order to succeed and reap the benefits of independent learning, most students require a strong support system.

The SLiDE app is a FREE resource that helps schools support their online students with interactive lessons on research-based success strategies and a robust set of communication tools that allows mentors to communicate more easily with both students and parents via push notifications on their mobile devices.

The SLiDE app is free for any and all who would benefit from its features. While we may eventually develop additional features for school districts to purchase, our ultimate goal is to move the needle in achievement for online students everywhere by making the basic features and functionalities of this app free for all.

While individual students, parents, and mentors will be able to download this app on their own, the SLiDE app will yield the best results when implemented at a school-wide level to build a network of support around online students.

We’re kicking off a pilot study with two schools who are implementing the SLiDE app with their online students. Once these pilot studies are complete, we’ll begin making plans to release the app to the public!

who benefits?

Not all students know what to expect when they sign up for an online course. With freedom over their pacing, some struggle to manage their time and end up feeling frustrated, panicked, and exasperated by the time the course ends.

The SLiDE app helps students learn what responsibilities will be expected of them in their online course and provides a simpler channel for communication with their mentor, who can help them stay on pace in their course.

When it comes to online learning, parents don’t always have the information they need to make good decisions regarding their child’s education. They sometimes feel left out of the communication process and unsure of how to help their child.

The SLiDE app helps parents learn the basics of what to expect from an online course and how they can best support their student. In addition, it offers them communication tools to connect directly with their student’s mentor.

Being a mentor is no easy job. Mentors of online students are often the only one at their school (or one of a handful) with their unique responsibilities. It’s easy for them to feel isolated and unsure of what this new position requires of them. They may struggle to keep students on pace, especially if they don’t regularly see their online learners face-to-face.

The SLiDE app helps mentors learn best practices for supporting online students and provides them with the communication tools to offer their students (and their parents) just-in-time support on their mobile devices.

Most schools are doing the best they can to support their online learners. Creating an effective support system for mentors, students, and parents can be a real challenge. They may actively seek ways to boost online student success rates, but still struggle to achieve the student outcomes they want.

The SLiDE app can be implemented at a school-wide level. It provides the basic framework for orienting students, mentors, and parents to best practices for success in online learning and breaks down communication barriers that impede student success.

Limited Course Capacity

We’re sorry to inform you that we have reached capacity for several of our Semester 1 and Trimester 1 courses. You’ll notice when attempting to enroll students in our Student Learning Portal that some courses are unavailable. While we are no longer accepting new enrollments for these courses at this time, many courses continue to remain open for enrollment.

With many students across the state 100% remote, demand for our online courses is greater than ever before. Because every course we offer is taught by a Michigan-certified teacher, this high volume of enrollments has created capacity issues for our teachers who provide each and every student with individual feedback.

While the Michigan Virtual team anticipated and planned for significant increases in student enrollments this Fall, the increased demand we’ve experienced has been unprecedented. As a result, we are taking steps to hire even more part-and full-time teachers to support larger numbers of student enrollments for Semester 2 as well as for Trimester 2 and 3.

For schools that still need online learning options this year, please fill out the form at the bottom of our virtual pathways page to meet with someone to discuss other solutions. While some of our teacher-led courses are full, we may still have the capacity to help you in upcoming terms or can discuss timing to implement a whole-school or collaborative program in which local teachers from your school/district use our online course content to teach students. We also have free course content and resources available for you to use.

We know this is an incredibly stressful time for all, and we’re sorry if the courses you’re looking for are unavailable. We never want to turn away a student who wants to learn from us. Our top concern, however, is student success, and we have a policy to not take on additional enrollments if we cannot guarantee that all students will have a quality online learning experience.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the unusually high volume of enrollments we are receiving.
