COURSE RATIONALE: This course is used to satisfy the social science graduation requirement. It is also a requirement in many 4-year degrees (e.g., social work and criminal justice). CATALOG DESCRIPTION: SOC 101: Principles of Sociology. This course is an introduction to the study of how the individual impacts and is affected by the social context in which he or she lives. Sociology is the scientific study of the relationships, groups, society, and world in which the individual lives. Topics to be emphasized include culture, socialization, institutions, deviance and social control, social inequality and stratification, and globalization.
