PTL: Module 6

School leaders must be familiar with and know how to enforce laws and policies related to their district on a daily basis. This practical course will introduce you to legal structures of Michigan public education and statutes related to the administration of school laws. You will pay specific attention to laws related to the educational environment, student rights and responsibilities, school safety and operations management, as well as the management of school finances, personnel, and negotiated agreements.

In this course, you will:

  • Understand five forms of federal and state law policy,
  • Analyze your district’s collective bargaining agreement,
  • Describe student’s rights and their protection under FERPA, and
  • Understand the importance of policy making, state and federal regulations and student advocacy.
