School leaders are responsible for ensuring that all staff receive explicit instruction in social emotional learning (SEL) so that it may be embedded into multi tiered systems of support (MTSS) for a positive and academically successful school culture. This professional development course asks you to determine and reflect on how your school integrates SEL practices into all of its MTSS to enhance academics and behavior. You will provide evidence that SEL needs are being met in the general education classroom and to at-risk or individual students and determine areas of systemic improvement.
In this course, you will:
- Describe the ways in which teachers receive explicit instruction in SEL to provide social emotional support at every level of need,
- Determine how to create systemic change by moving away from rewards/punishments to student goal setting and achievement,
- Apply resources and examples of how to braid the MTSS process with social emotional related goals in your school, and
- Provide the evidence to earn your “Braiding MTSS & SEL” micro-credential.
