As part of an Instructional Learning Cycle, teacher teams meet collaboratively to set learning targets, decide on the instructional strategies to be used and identify common assessments. To determine if students are meeting the components of the learning targets during the cycle, teachers are encouraged to use formative assessments to decide if instruction needs to be adjusted and if certain students might need reteaching or acceleration. This course will provide you with a basic understanding of the Formative Assessment Process. This is only an introductory course, but it will begin to shape educator’s thinking around the process and leave them with a plan to move forward to deepening their understanding. To deepen your understanding of formative assessments, please visit the F.A.M.E. (Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators) website: Formative Assessment Website
