SLP: Guardian Dashboard

Introduction:

In addition to enrolling your student, guardians have the ability track progress and provide support where needed. This process describes how to navigate the Student Learning Portal Dashboard as a guardian.

Details:

  1. First, there are two items that will remain the same throughout navigating the Student Learning Portal:
    • Your full name will be displayed above a “Logout” link at the top right corner of the page. This allows guardians to exit the Student Learning Portal.
    • Your student name(s) will appear in the top menu bar at the top of the page. If you have more than one student to monitor, their names will appear to alter student account views. If your student does not appear, please follow the Add Another Student to Account process.
    • The dashboard page shows six widgets, Academic Snapshot, Completed Courses, Upcoming Events, Messages, Activity and Course Requests. Each widget will populate according to your activity within the system.
  2. Finally, choose an option from the available options below in the left navigation menu:
    1. Tap Guardian Messages to view important communications related to your student’s course.
    2. Select Course Registration to search for available classes and enroll your student in a course.
    3. Select Mentor Information to view the assigned mentor’s contact information.
Note: If a guardian enrolls a student, he or she will not have an assigned mentor.
    4. Click Active Courses to review the course syllabus and additional details. If the student is enrolled in multiple classes, tap the green left and right arrows to view the other course details.
    5. Select Suggested Pacing to determine if the student is performing on pace or is behind.
    6. Click Gradebook to view the Instructor Name and Email as well as an outline of the assignments.
    7. Tap Student Information to view your student details.
    8. Select Ledger to view recent transactions related to enrollment purchases.
    9. Click Edit Account to modify your password or phone number.
    10. Tap School Calendar to view events for approaching dates.

The Guardian dashboard is shown with the options above in the left navigation menu. The dashboard also displays 6 widgets including academic snapshot, completed courses, upcoming events, messages, activity, and course requests.

Keep up with the latest Michigan Virtual has to offer

Limited Course Capacity

We’re sorry to inform you that we have reached capacity for several of our Semester 1 and Trimester 1 courses. You’ll notice when attempting to enroll students in our Student Learning Portal that some courses are unavailable. While we are no longer accepting new enrollments for these courses at this time, many courses continue to remain open for enrollment.

With many students across the state 100% remote, demand for our online courses is greater than ever before. Because every course we offer is taught by a Michigan-certified teacher, this high volume of enrollments has created capacity issues for our teachers who provide each and every student with individual feedback.

While the Michigan Virtual team anticipated and planned for significant increases in student enrollments this Fall, the increased demand we’ve experienced has been unprecedented. As a result, we are taking steps to hire even more part-and full-time teachers to support larger numbers of student enrollments for Semester 2 as well as for Trimester 2 and 3.

For schools that still need online learning options this year, please fill out the form at the bottom of our virtual pathways page to meet with someone to discuss other solutions. While some of our teacher-led courses are full, we may still have the capacity to help you in upcoming terms or can discuss timing to implement a whole-school or collaborative program in which local teachers from your school/district use our online course content to teach students. We also have free course content and resources available for you to use.

We know this is an incredibly stressful time for all, and we’re sorry if the courses you’re looking for are unavailable. We never want to turn away a student who wants to learn from us. Our top concern, however, is student success, and we have a policy to not take on additional enrollments if we cannot guarantee that all students will have a quality online learning experience.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the unusually high volume of enrollments we are receiving.
